Blue Economy: A sector providing 700,000 jobs and generating 24 billion DH in sales
Making a successful transition to a sustainable and inclusive blue economy, a major objective at the heart of the new development model’s priorities .
Its realization will enable Morocco to accelerate its economic growth. But also, and above all, to establish itself as an essential maritime hub.
The fisheries and aquaculture sector alone generates almost 700,000 jobs, and contributes around 45% of agri-food exports.
Aware of the importance of the blue economy sectors and the multiple growth potential they offer, Morocco has long been committed to the emergence of a sustainable and inclusive blue economy.
To this end, the Kingdom intends to adopt a national strategy that takes into account regional vocations and aims to enhance traditional sectors such as fishing, tourism and port activities. But it also aims to promote new sectors with high growth potential, such as aquaculture, ecotourism, marine biotechnologies…
