The blue economy: an opportunity for Morocco
Maritime activities represent a major potential for creating wealth and jobs. Certain activities, such as fishing, tourism, ferries and transport, have historically played a predominant role in Morocco’s economy. Other activities, such as offshore oil and gas, water sports and yachting, are still underdeveloped, even though they have great potential.
Alongside these traditional activities, the development of new business sectors in Morocco can represent significant economic opportunities, and be a source of economic value creation, skills and jobs.
These activities include aquaculture, shipbuilding and repair, cruising, leisure and water sports, renewable energies, biotechnology and desalination.
Maritime activities include the following six categories: fishing, tourism, port activities, energy, seawater desalination and marine biotechnology.
